Ultimate Ladder to Become a Successful Web Host Reseller

One has resolute to acquire a reseller web hosting account to resell web space. What can be probably the step? Well it’s given as under-

1. Prefer the policy which one wants to put in application.

More open source software programs are based on Linux and not for Windows, this factor which makes Linux quite cheaper. While the majority of programs (Perl, PHP, Flash, etc.) run on both stands, a little will process on only Windows or Linux. Requirement of a Windows platform is must for a site that requires ASP or MS Access.

2. Select the control panel one wants to bring into play.

Control panels for websites can be categorized from basic to advance. As a reseller, one would also have a control panel for him/her to manage and command the hosting accounts.

In selecting the Hosting Automation Software, several panels are compared possessing excellent features for web host resellers.

3. Pick the right host.

One must choose the web host company after taking into consideration all the aspects -. Factors to keep in mind when choosing a web host for a reseller account:

The platform and control panel

Account features

The company’s status – quest for online reviews by customers

The verification of server uptime

The level of support – the gap between the asked support and the support actually provided especially time-sensitive ones?

Elasticity – does the web host have packages that can uplift one in the period of scarcity? Will they modify their steps in the rigid circumstances?

How much experienced is the web host- while an innovative web host probably be very effective, many web-hosting businesses do not survive even for 12 months

Price-one should check what he/she is getting for the price quoted.

Now coming up to Reseller hosting-

4. Set up of one’s own hosting strategy and fees

One should divide and should find out the ratio of bandwidth to disk space that one can put forward. Take into consideration any ratios that fluctuate due to difference in packages, and then one should base his/her packages on that ratio.

One should consider the prices prevailing in the market .However one should also take into account the additional facilities if provided by the host provider.

5. Build up a commercial site

One has three main alternatives for site development:

Crafting a website by putting in use an open website pattern
For crafting of site summon a designer or a design group.

If one is having good designing skills as well as techniques, then there is no harm for him/her to develop a site by his/her own.

There must be an ideal ethics in the information that clients deserve and want to know.

6. Build a site which is e-commerce geared up

To be in a condition of receiving payments for hosting accounts, one will have to set up:

An SSL permit

A trade account

An expense access

7. To set up a helpdesk

A helpdesk permits clients to remain in touch with their provider so as to get desired response of their queries.

8. To systemize billing

With automated billing system, it’s quite easy to register billing as well as to make payments to clients. There are several billing software licenses that are rated on monthly or yearly basis, Life span licenses are also given by some billing software companies at an offered amount.

Examples of some popular billing and payment processing systems:

WHM.Autopilot

Whois.Cart etc

When one chooses a billing software program, he/she must check if it’s friendly with his/her server platform and if support is integrated.

9. Generating a welcome email

One must send a welcome email to his/her client after setting up his/her own hosting accounts .The email should contain:

A confirmation of the plan details, name server names ,a username and temporary password ,a link to the control panel ,links to one’s own knowledge base / FAQ and to his/her own helpdesk etc.

10. Promoting a website

One must put forward his/her site to search engines. One must put his/her knowledge into the minds of his/her family, peers, and colleague’s .One should contain a link to it in one’s signature line in departing mails. However one must not stop here instead should promote his/her website through incoming links, marketing, newsletters, and unique offers.

Things You Need To Know In Order To Find The Best Web Hosting

Today many people have taken to promoting their own website. From idea to creation building a web site can be a daunting task. One part does not need to be, finding the best web hosting service. You need to be confident in your site and should not be drained financially by your web hosting service. With a bit of research and comparison, you can find the best web hosting service for your site.

Network UP Time

Any company you decide to go with should have at least a 95% up time, meaning they have the correct T lines for transmittal of data. This also means they will stay online even when traffic on their server is drastically increased.

As popularity increases so does the amount of traffic on server. During certain holidays there are also peak times. Do understand that the best servers will have occasional issues, but should have few major issues. Your web host server should regularly debug and install new software in order to keep up acceptable service.

Customer Service

Always check out any potential web hosting service thoroughly before signing with them. Look for service recognitions from other companies. Read the testimonials and reviews. Word of mouth can be very helpful; you can learn a lot of a company’s quirks and good points from current and previous users. Search the internet for ratings and the competition. Check with the Internet Better Business Bureau for how long business has been around and for complaints.
Test them out before signing on. Send them an email question and see how long it takes to respond and what kind of answer you receive.

Disk Storage Allotments and Bandwidth Increase Options

Never simply accept the word of the company on this one, always sign a contract. Keep these tips in mind;

Never get locked into a contract allowing only certain usage for an extended period of time. You want to have the contract allowing the option of increasing amounts.

Script Providing

Because you need to easily be able to get your information on your website, pick a company that has the same operating system as you, so they will have the same type of scripts you will need. CGI and Perl Scripts run well with Windows OS and Linux OS. If you use Access for forms you need a web hosting provider running Windows OS exclusively.

Website Statistics Reporting System

This is a very important part of your site, even veteran hosts use this. It enables you to track your marketing plans and bandwidth usage. It saves you money by preventing wasteful spending on not profitable website advertising campaigns.

Control Panel

Most control panels are very easy to use since they are developed with a user friendly interface browser for the everyday user.

Linux is a bit more complicated to use than Windows but has other advantages, Linux also offers up some perks like changeable code and free use. Familiarize yourself with both systems so you can make them work for you.

Some other things to look for when shopping around are numerous email domains and great SPAM filters. With research you can compare and feel good knowing you took extra care to educate yourself.

Web Hosts: The Basics

Before you start searching for a web host, you must familiarize yourself with the terminology used in this field. The following terms are also considered key factors in deciding the suitable hosting plan that meets your requirements. You can start learning what does each term mean and how does it affect your selection.

Web Host
A web host, also known as web server, is a computer connected to the internet. This computer is more powerful than normal PCs and is set up to serve up websites. Your website content will reside on this computer, which will give people who surf the internet a way to access your website.

Web hosts can be categorized into three main categories based on the price range and common features for each category:

1. Free Hosts: limited in space, bandwidth and other features. Suitable for personal websites or for temporary usage. Usually enforce pop-up, text or banner ads. They do not provide the best performance and/or reliability. They provide minimum or no customer support. If you register for a free host, your domain will be something like yourname.freehost.com or www.freehost.com/yourname.

2. Shared Hosts: most websites are using this type of hosting. Suitable for personal, small and medium businesses. Prices range from $1 to about $25 a month. Features also range from very limited space/bandwidth to semi-dedicated servers. Your website has its own top level domain (e.g. www.website-hostings.net) The number of websites on a server affects its performance and availability, more websites usually means less performance. Servers hosting less number of shared websites are more expensive, but more reliable. Some companies allow customers to host multiple websites with different domains under a single account.

3. Dedicated Hosts: A full server dedicated to a single customer. Usually used by large businesses and very active websites with thousands of daily visitors. The customer will have full control over the server, and can create as many websites as he likes. Customer can have his own hosting company run on a rented dedicated server. Prices depend on the specifications and services provided with the server, starting from about $100 up to about $800 dollars a month.

4. Colocated Hosts: very similar to dedicated hosts, but the customer owns the server hardware instead of renting it. The server will be housed in provider’s data center. Prices are a bit higher than dedicated servers.

5. Reseller Hosts: providers offer web server storage to customers, who then resell the web server storage to their customers. Providers usually offer resellers a discount price.

6. Other Hosts: there are few other types of hosts such as email hosts, media hosts, data hosts, etc but these are out of the scope of this article.

Domain Name
http://www.website-hostings.net/ is an example of a domain name. It’s a name that points to where your website is physically located. The actual address of your website is a set of numbers that looks like (70.86.135.242). This address is unique for every web server. Domain names are just pointers to the real addresses. It’s easier to remember the domain names than the IP addresses.

Space / Storage
The amount of web server’s disk space available for customer’s website files, images and databases. It can be as small as 5MB in some free hosts and as big as 300GB for some dedicated servers. Space prices reduced significantly during the last few years. Customer can find hosting plans offering 3GB of space for less than $10 a month.

Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the amount of data transferred from web server to clients’ internet browsers. Each time a person view a page data is transmitted from the server to that person’s PC. Audio, video and images contents consume much more bandwidth than text. Bandwidth can be as low as 100MB a month in some free web hosts and as high as 2000GB a month in some dedicated servers. Customer can find hosting plans offering 75GB of monthly data transfer for less than $10.

Server Type
Usually means the operating system than runs the web server. Common types are Windows, Linux and UNIX. Server type determines the server side scripting and database types. Windows usually runs ASP and ASP.NET with Access or SQL Server databases. Linux/UNIX servers usually runs CGI, PHP or JSP with mySQL or Oracle databases. Windows servers are usually more expensive than Linux/UNIX servers.

Databases
As you have seen in server types, there are different types of databases. The most commonly used is mySQL because its an open source GPL (free) software and can serve a lot of online applications’ requirements such as forums, content management, mailing lists, etc. MySQL, however, has some limitations in its features. Complicated large business sites will need more powerful databases such as Oracle or SQL Server.

Server Side Scripting
Most new users prefer to use PHP as server side scripting. The reason is that there are hundreds of open source (GPL) PHP scripts that can meet a lot of webmaster’s requirements. Similar to mySQL, PHP has some limitations in features required by advanced websites, which makes some senior web developers prefer to use ASP.NET or JSP. Other developers still prefer to use Cold Fusion, CGI, ASP or PERL.

Email
Most hosting plans include the feature of having some email accounts with customer’s domain (e.g. admin@website-hostings.net). The number and size of email accounts depends on the hosting plan. Free plans do not usually have this feature, small plans give about 10 accounts where big plans do not limited the number. Those email accounts are usually web based and accessible through POP3 clients as well.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
A standard way of transferring files across the Internet. Most webmasters upload and download their websites contents using FTP. The upload or download processes are usually performed using FTP client software. To access their web servers, webmasters need FTP username and password. Some hosts give more than one FTP account to their customers. FTP can by anonymous as well, but its not recommended for security reasons.

Control Panel
Most web hosting companies provide their customers with a control panel, a web based application that helps in managing websites. Common functions in control panels are: managing email accounts, providing statistics, managing FTP accounts, managing domains and subdomains and managing databases. The most commonly used control panel application is cPanel. Some companies develop their own control panel application.

Uptime
An important feature of web hosts is their uptime, which is usually measured in percentage. A server that goes down for an average of 30 minutes a day will have an uptime percentage of about 99.98%, which is acceptable for most small to medium business websites. Anything less than this percentage is not suitable for a business website. Mission critical sites cannot tolerate frequent outages, thus they may use web monitoring services to notify web administrators immediately when an outage happens.

Price
With the wide range of options available for customers, the price is also ranges from 0 to $1000 a month. Most personal, small and medium websites shouldn’t cost more than $15 a month. It’s not recommended for business website owners to go for very cheap plans (less than $5) because this price usually means a compromise in the quality of support and reliability of the server.

Create Your Space With Web Hosting

Web hosting is a sort of Internet facility that permits organizations and individuals to have their own website accessibility through the World Wide Web. The companies that offer space on a server with Internet connectivity are known as Web hosts or Web hosting providers.

Among the wide-ranging exploits of web hosting, web page and small-scale file hosting has been rated as the most basic one, wherein files are uploaded via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or a Web Interface.

Personal web site hosting comes generally free, while the business web site hosting entails comparatively higher expense. For personal web pages, a single page hosting is more than enough. On the contrary, a complex site necessitates a more intense package that offers database support and application development platforms like PHP, Java, and ASP.NET.

Web hosting is generally presented as part of a general Internet access plan, and you can come across several schemes of free and paid web hosting providers providing these services. It entirely depends upon a customer to decide what kind of hosting to use. Reaching to a certain decision comprises of considering database server software, scripting software, and operating system. Majority of the web hosting providers endow with Linux-based web hosting that provides a thick array of different software. If you look at a basic configuration for a Linux server, you will get to know concepts like the LAMP platform: Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/ Perl /Python.

The web hosting client can expect to comprise the services, like email for their business domain, databases or multi-media services for streaming media. Besides, a customer might well make up his/ her mind for having Windows for its hosting platform. The customer would have PHP, Perl, and Python, and also go with ASP .Net or Classic ASP for the purpose of facilitating website development. Generally, a Web Content Management System is included in Web hosting packages. This reduces the worry of the end-users about the more technical aspects.

Web hosting providers can also provide allied services, like monthly backups, web design services and domain registration, apart from doling out even conference rooms in their data centers.

An Introduction to UNIX Web Hosting

What Is UNIX? UNIX was first developed in AT&T’s Bell Laboratories in the early 1970’s. In the four decades of use, the UNIX operating system has earned the reputation as one of the most powerful, versatile and flexible secure operating systems around.

The UNIX operating system has been under constant development ever since its inception. It is extremely stable system for servers, desktops and laptops.

UNIX systems also have a graphical user interface similar to Microsoft Windows which provides an easy to use environment. In the early 1980’s, UNIX systems began to grow rapidly and was noticed by industry analysts and researchers. Throughout the 1980’s, the debate about the strengths and weaknesses of UNIX systems often raged. And, in an effort to further differentiate competing UNIX system products, analysts kept developing and adding features of their own.

Why Should I Choose UNIX?

You should choose the platform based on your website needs. Define specific functions you need your website to perform along with the programming language and database required to perform them.

What is Free BSD and OpenBSD?

There are two main Unix-based operating systems: FreeBSD and OpenBSD. The good thing about these systems is that they seem to be very stable once you install them on your machines. OpenBSD is also known to be one of the most secure operating system in the world. But with OpenBSD you will have to sacrifice some features for security. Again the best thing about these systems is that they are both free.

What Scripting Languages Are Available For UNIX?

UNIX supports a wide variety of application languages, more than any other operating system. The most common include C, C++, Shell, Perl, Tcl, Python, Java and PHP.

What Databases Does UNIX Support?

Databases available for UNIX are SQL and mySQL. Which one you choose depends on your needs and what your Web Hosting Provider offers. This is an important item for you to review when choosing your web hosting company.

Why is UNIX better for your hosting purposes?

Most obviously because it is cheaper than Windows. It is also more reliable and secure. About 70% of the internet web servers run UNIX/LINUX operating system.

What Is Linux?

Linux is an Open Source Unix-type operating system. A young student named Linus Torvalds at the University of Helsinki in Finland initially created it as a hobby. Today, it has become quite popular worldwide because of its functionality and availability. This is functionally very similar to UNIX, so most web servers will use Linux.

Linux is a very popular open source operating system today and several users run websites that support PHP. Many really enjoy the open-source atmosphere and is the reason it continues to grow.

What Is Apache?

The Apache HTTP Server is an open-source HTTP server for modern operating systems including UNIX and Windows NT. Apache has been the most popular web server on the Internet since 1996 because of its reputation as a secure, efficient and extensible server, in sync with the current HTTP standards.

How Do Register a Domain with GoDaddy?

So I was going to register a domain name with GoDaddy, which sounds simple enough until I got to the checkout page.

This is an example of the checkout page as provided by an information site: http://z.about.com/d/webdesign/1/0/y/U/1/godaddy6.png

The thing that confused me is where it said “If you are hosting these domains elsewhere, click here to set nameservers.”

Right now, I do plan to find a different web hosting service (linux-based) that allows you to add both a blog and a forum.

The problem is that I haven’t purchased any web hosting, so how would I know the nameservers. I’m lost as to what to do.

Do I just park the domain at GoDaddy, purchase web hosting, and change the nameservers per the web host’s instructions later?

Please help if you’ve gone through this process.
